Grandson of tobacco magnate RJ Reynolds (Camels, Winstons) and Anti-Tobacco Activist
Patrick Reynolds is a grandson of the tobacco company founder, R.J. Reynolds, makers of Camel and Winston, but the family’s brands killed his father and eldest brother..............
Mr. Reynolds spoke out publicly in Congress in 1986 against the industry his family helped build, and in 2003, US Surgeon General C. Everett Koop commented, "Patrick Reynolds is one of the nation's most influential advocates of a smokefree America. His testimony is invaluable to our society." In 2016, Mr. Reynolds received the Lifetime Achievement Award from President Obama and the White House. In June the San Francisco Chronicle published an editorial he wrote applauding San Francisco's banning the sale of vaping products.
Over the years Patrick Reynolds has campaigned in the US and internationally for workplace smoking bans, tobacco tax increases and for educating youth about smoking and e-cigarettes. An impassioned speaker at universities and to children, Mr. Reynolds begins his talks with the sad memory of his father dying from smoking when he was a boy, and then tells his very personal story of crossing over to the other side.
At the Family Office Forum, Patrick will discuss the best investment he thinks anyone can make: “Spending time with people you love. You won't remember another million dollars made, or another deal closed, but you will remember time spent with your children, family and friends.” His talk moves audiences, and his is one you will want to hear. He'll discuss the dos and don'ts of bringing up children in a wealthy family. That is something he knows about: Patrick's bestselling book The Gilded Leaf is a critically acclaimed biography telling the story of three generations of his colorful family and fortune.
Patrick’s Foundation for a Tobaccofree World is now seeking major gifts to send him on an international speaking tour of nations with high rates of smoking. He wishes to speak in the Middle East, China and other nations, with press invited in every city, to help create public awareness of tobacco and e-cigarettes. He would also meet with government leaders and Ministers of Health to discuss four government policies which have effectively reduced smoking rates in the nations which have implemented them.
Mr. Reynolds is also seeking to build an endowment for his Foundation, and would welcome inquiries from those interested in supporting his work. Contact him by email at patrick@Tobaccofree.org or on his mobile, +1-310-880-1111. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and 8 year old son.

The Harrington family’s journey in the for-profit and philanthropic healthcare sectors began in 1990, when Ron and his wife, Nancy, purchased Edgepark Surgical.............
At the time, Edgepark had $2 million in revenues, 34 employees, and 30 days remaining before it declared bankruptcy.
Under the family’s leadership, the company became a family business that included not only Ron, Nancy, and their children, Ron Jr. and Jill, but also had their grandchildren and family dogs as part of the product catalog. The transformation the family worked on resulted in 20 consecutive years of double digit sales increases and 20 consecutive years of double digit profit growth. By the time the Harringtons sold their controlling shares of the company, Edgepark had become the largest mail-order provider of specialty medical supplies in the US, with eight national distribution centers and 1,200 employees. In 2013, Cardinal Health acquired Edgepark (now, AssuraMed) for more than $2 billion.
Over the years, the Harrington family developed a passion for supporting entrepreneurial solutions for unmet needs in healthcare−they became leaders in healthcare philanthropy and impact investing. In 2008, the family committed $22.6 million to establish the University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute, among the largest gifts to an American cardiovascular institute.
In 2012, the Harringtons followed up with a catalytic gift of $50 million to establish The Harrington Project for Discovery and Development, an initiative to create a new, national drug development pipeline. Centered at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio, the $350 million transformative discovery and development platform aligns non-profit and for-profit organizations (the Harrington Discovery Institute and BioMotiv) to provide top physicians and scientists with the resources they need to turn their breakthrough discoveries into medicines. Ron is actively involved with the Harrington Discovery Institute, which has created a pipeline of more than a hundred drugs in development, and he chairs BioMotiv, which connects promising medical research to investors and pharmaceutical companies.
The Harringtons have especially committed themselves to supporting healthcare, through the Harrington Project; student scholarship, in particular through the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, where Ron is a director; and the performing arts, as Ron serves as a director of the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts in New York.

Pioneering thought leader Scott Amyx shows anyone striving to succeed, regardless of who or where we are, what we do or have done for a living, or how young or old we are, that the secret to outstanding achievement is not talent but doing the things uncomfortable he calls “strive”.
Drawing on his own powerful story of an impoverished immigrant frequently told that he would mount to nothing, Amyx, now a celebrated venture capitalist and futurist, describes his meteoric rise from obscurity to prominence, which led to the hypothesis that what really drives success is not intellect, opportunities or even network but pursuing personal change that’s uncomfortable. In this book, Scott takes readers into his defining life moments and stories from some of the most unlikely individuals who persevered through change to become outrageously successful. He also mines fascinating insights from history and shows what can be gleaned from modern experiments in high performance.
Finally, he shares what he’s learned from interviewing dozens of high achievers—from corporate CEOs, unicorn startup entrepreneurs to global policy leaders. Strive shows how you can shape your life and your career, a life of fulfillment and joy, constantly creative and productive, one that always holds the possibility of delightful surprise.

terrain: integral designs & terrain.cloud
Klaus Klaas Loenhart is an impact eco-visionary, founder of terrain: integral designs and terrain.cloud and Professor at ia&l Landlab TU Graz, Austria. .............
As a multidisciplinarian, he and his teams are developing nature-inspired decarbonization and climate strategies as well as impact-focused design solutions for reconnecting urban society with our living environment through innovation.
Klaus considers urban agglomerations to be a living biome. His systemic and passionate mission for an integral and eco-based societal practice was established during his multidisciplinary studies at the Munich University of Applied Sciences and at the Harvard Graduate School of Design in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Current research projects, including those conducted by his studio terrain: integral designs, involve the publicly funded programs ‘Living Supersystems’ and ‘Micro Climates for Macro Change’ that aim for transformative co-creation between ecological agents and human endeavors to inform the fields of human health, biodiversity, and social urban practices in times of changing climates. Here, smart technology, data science, design, and natural systems meet to partner within our living environments.
As proof of the concept ‘imagining cities that grow air,’ he and his team implemented the Austrian Pavilion at the 2015 EXPO World Fair in Milan—a natural/techno-logical hybrid, whose ecological and atmospheric performance takes center stage—and were recently awarded the UNESCO City of Design Award – Grand Award.
